Of course some good non-Dead stuff is noce once in a while, but it seems like lately this thing has been almost all non-Dead posts.

So this isn't a complete gripe post, here's some beautiful music for you:

We have a new Darwin award winner.

Although I was kind of hoping it would be the pastor that cheered on the 5-year old singing the ant-gay tune.

Gotta have faith

I think tangents are fun. Sometimes I even learn something. I wouldn't know about a lot of other good music out there.

Yea I remember it like it was yesterday.

Of course, there are quite a few non-Dead threads lately. Hell there are even some non-music threads. And there are some I wished I hadn't read, but no one twisted my arm.

Hey even Jerry couldn't live on nothing but Dead. JGB, JGAB, OAITW, LOM, Reconstruction, Garcia/Kahn, Garcia/Wales, Garcia/Saunders, Rainforest Band, David & The Dorks and he sat in with NRPS, CSN&Y, Jefferson Airplane, Brewer & Shipley, Paul Pena, Peter Rowan, Warren Zevon, Country Joe McDonald, Ken Nordine, Ornette Coleman, Bruce Hornsby, Bob Dylan, Ned Lagin, Sanjay Mishra and more.

So it seems this forum in really no more tangential than Jerry Garcia.

This forum has become like a family for many of us. And since you can choose friends, but you can't choose your family you have to learn to take the good with the bad and even ignore some of the crazier relatives.

BTW, besides having the absolute best GD version of H2H, 4/29/1971 is a very strong show that everyone should listen to. And please don't neglect the NRPS set from the same show.

in response to jerry's many musical connections- i recently spent a large chunk of time in an automobile (like, a whole year) and wound up playing some pretty dumb games to pass the time. one of them was "six degrees of jerry garcia". it was played just like "six degrees of kevin bacon", but using jerry instead of kevin bacon. the fact that jerry was working for so long and was fairly casual with collaboration led to some pretty funny connections.

then there is Jerry Favorite Ice Cream, Cherry Garcia. Dead legend has it he was given unlimited Ben & Jerrys Ice Cream in exchange for using his name "Cherry Garcia"

Which along with cigarettes, probably led to his early exit.

I'm not so sure about that. So far as I know, Jerry never touched on the subject of roasted testicles.... or braised testicles either for that matter, either musically or otherwise. Of course, I am not completely versed in his entire canon of work as yet, so there is still the chance that I may be proved wrong some day. :) :)

You're right, Jerry did have other "musical" bands, but he had the sense to separate his political leanings and such from the stage.

I guess after I had read days and days of sports, news and random crap that have nothing to do with anything, I felt compelled to say something.

I'm afraid if this place talked about the Dead and Dead only, I'd probably grow tired fairly quicky. I mean, where else can you debate Bob Dylan's recent award and at the same time learn about the latest in Japanese cuisine? Just like I frequently will take a hiatus from listening to the boys, I also enjoy some time reading about alternate subjects.

I like tangents too, I guess since I am in a musical forum I like to read related material that's all. Some of this shit has nothing to do with anything. Not a big deal when peppered with material related to actual forum, but lately there is little or no GD related stuff. As for the 'so what' part, I felt that if someone could post about a guy roasting his own testicles, I could comment on the actual forum's topics.

Alas, it is the Internet and we are judged by the flames we attract, not by the content of our post. So pile on folks!!

I hope you at least enjoyed the TC video

roasting his own testicles? Dang glad I missed that. I don't really feel I have anything original to say about the GD lately and definitely not if LIA makes a post ( I'm not worthy I'm not worthy )

so let me reiterate - 5/19/74 best China Rider ever!

Actually, as bad as I am, I do agree w ya...I try to keep my sillyness, nonDEAD posts down the board, outta the way, and only offer in defense that I always try to help folks w early era queries, etc., but in the end know ur right....other defense would b that the bd would sit idle, w little activity for long periods if we didn't post some drivel, eh?

Well, you could look at it this way. There's the show/main event (the GD posts), but there's also the lot and getting to the show. If a lot of the posts are about other stuff, well, that's just the conversation too and fro, with basically sorta-kinda-likeminded folks babbling about whatever ...

I also expect there'd be more "focused" discussion on a Furthur forum, cuz it's actually happening now. This is the Ancient History Forum, so if we babble about other stuff in the course of our archeological digs, what the heck, why not? (But I'm probably a prime offender, so I would say that :-) )

More humane than Seastones?

Does anyone remember Noriega hiding out at the Vatican compound in Panama? Last time the press showed coffins coming off the plane...

I'd have thought it would be Barney. I learned this one from my son when he was in First Grade or whenever they all got too cool for Barney:

Joy to the world
That Barney's dead*
we barbecued his head**
Don't worry about the body,
We flushed it down the potty,
Round and round*** it goes
Round and round it goes ...

Proof:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pewaHrF_iqw

IMO Sesame Street is more humane than Barney which is more humane than the ABSOLUTE WORST EVER, which is Mr. Rogers.

Seastones would be more humane than any Brent song. I'm not sure how a Brent song would stack up against Mr. Rogers.

* Note the word "Dead." So it's on topic, right?
** More proof that this is on topic.
*** Yet more proof. Also a possible GD Torture Song, at least with repetition in the right (wrong?) circumstance. Better or worse than OMSN? (FOr the circumstance, that is.)
